COVID-19 may have affected the employment status and working conditions of women in the Global South. Labor status often provides benefits to its holders, such as insurance or pensions; however, when that status is fragile, workers often lack decent working conditions.
This report explores women's participation in vulnerable employment prior to COVID-19, using the 2019 World Bank indicator for the proportion of women in the self-employed labor force considered vulnerable. This exercise provides us with an approximation of the current employment crisis facing women.
